Data Communications
ART has a vast amount of experience designing a wide range of structured cabling solutions to meet the client’s needs. The telecommunications system we design provides for voice, data, video and other low voltage signaling functions (such as for paging, energy management and security systems) through twisted pair, fiber optic, and coaxial cable. Our structured cabling solutions are designed to reduce future upgrading needs and to provide optimum network communications.
The telecommunications infrastructure is constantly evolving due to rapid changes in technology; we are actively involved in a review and advisory capacity from inception through construction in all our designs. A typical telecommunications system includes an entrance facility (EF) which houses outside plant cables, the building telecommunications equipment room (TER/MDF) which houses core switches and the necessary hardware to provide cross connection between the outside plant cables and the inside backbone cabling, and the floor telecommunications rooms (TR/IDF) which house horizontal wiring and remote network equipment.
Our expertise also includes core and remote switches, servers, storage and wireless data solutions as well as paging, clock, audio-visual, media distribution and sound systems.

The telecommunications infrastructure comprises of Category 6 horizontal cabling; and single mode and laser optimized multimode fiber optic backbone cabling. The voice communications equipment comprises of NEC 8300 voice over IP (VoIP) telephone system with VoIP handsets. The data communications equipment comprises of Cisco core and edge switches and Aerohive wireless data access points with a central controller.
Salem State University
Salem, MA
Architect: Shepley Bulfinch, Boston, MA
Project Cost: $75M
Telecommunications infrastructure design for a new 120,000 sq ft library and learning commons building. The telecommunications infrastructure comprises of Category 6 horizontal cabling; and copper, single mode and laser optimized multimode fiber optic backbone cabling. The design includes outside plant cabling infrastructure to connect various buildings on campus. The design required coordination for relocation and changeover of existing voice and data utilities to allow for the construction of the new building.
